Repsol’s High Purity Liquefied Gases (HPLGs) meet the most demanding regulations in range of different applications. They are used across the aerosol industry (cosmetics, household, automotive, food, insecticides, etc.) and in foam polymers for food and construction, producing polymers by chemical synthesis and to manufacture lighters.

Client Challenge

Repsol customers are looking for products tailored to their business and for very specific needs.

Repsol carried out internal calculations of the carbon footprint of their products, according to a methodology based on the ISO 14067 standard, to better understand the influence of the different stages from inception to completion. The objective is to understand the impact of the different production stages to study the possible implementation of actions that could have an impact on reducing the carbon footprint.

The carbon footprint of the product has been calculated in a rigorous, reliable and comparable manner and has been verified in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

LRQA was responsible for validating and verifying all calculations following the procedures indicated in the ISO standard method, as well as improving Repsol's calculation procedures, making them more robust and facilitating their adaptability through continuous improvement.

A new opportunity and future prospects

Verification by LRQA provided Repsol with external assurance by validating their methodology and providing documentation that enables transparent communication with their customers.

This first verification according to the ISO 14067 standard provides Repsol with a starting point for a more ambitious programme to calculate the carbon footprint of their products.

This allows them to be flexible in adapting to regulatory requirements that may arise or evolve in the future.

The verification of the carbon footprint of HPLGs is part of the sustainability strategy established for this product line by Repsol.
