We operate the Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS) on behalf of water utility companies and the WIRSAE accreditation on behalf of Market Operator Services Ltd (MOSL) and water wholesalers.

A WIRS accredited self-lay organisation may perform works on the connection of water mains and supplies to a property, dependent on the status and scope of accreditation.

A WIRSAE Provider contracted by retailers to carry out accredited work (as defined in the Wholesale Retail Code and detailed in the generic code of practice supplemented by adopting utilities addendums) can be accredited under this scheme. Those Adopting Utilities within England that recognise this scheme will allow WIRSAE Providers that hold the appropriate scopes of accreditation to tender for, and if successful undertake temporary / permanent disconnections and meter installation / replacement works.
