Red Ambiental: Achieving quality, environmental and safety standards to provide exceptional service

Certifications ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 39001.

Client Challenge

Red Ambiental, a company with 27 years of experience in the waste management industry, has faced various challenges in its pursuit of operational excellence and commitment to its stakeholders, particularly the environment. Based in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, and operating in 20 states across the country, the organisation has grown significantly, reaching around 4,500 employees. The company works with both public and private sector clients, including hospitals and municipalities, adding complexity to its quality management and sustainability efforts.

The main challenges faced by Red Ambiental included the need for a management system that effectively integrated quality, environmental, and safety standards. The organisation also sought to meet market expectations, ensure customer satisfaction, and strengthen its professional reputation, all while committing to reducing environmental impact and continuously improving its processes.

How we helped

To tackle these challenges, Red Ambiental chose to implement an Integrated Management System that included quality (ISO 9001), environmental management (ISO 14001), occupational health and safety (ISO 45001) and road traffic safety (ISO 39001) certifications. The choice of LRQA as their partner in the certification process was crucial in providing an efficient audit and acting as a strategic partner in risk management and mitigation.

Through a gap analysis, the LRQA auditors helped Red Ambiental identify areas for improvement and adapt existing processes to the required standards, enabling them to successfully obtain the necessary certifications. The implementation of the management system took approximately 12 months, during which Red Ambiental worked on documenting processes, establishing quality policies, and training staff.

Red Ambiental identified that working with LRQA had helped them to reduce operational costs and improve the effectiveness of the management system. The certifications not only validated the company's high standards but also helped them to pursue new business opportunities, enhancing their market image and customer confidence.

The impact

The results of implementing the Integrated Management System have been significant. Among the most notable benefits are a more efficient use of resources, greater profitability in certification, and the elimination of duplicated efforts. The organisation achieved a considerable reduction in fatigue during audits, thanks to the integration of the management systems.

Moreover, the certifications have had a positive impact on morale and organisational culture, generating greater commitment among employees regarding quality, safety, and sustainability. Red Ambiental has noticed an increase in customer satisfaction, contributing to maintaining its competitive position in the market.

Through its partnership with LRQA and the successful implementation of its Integrated Management System, Red Ambiental has not only demonstrated its commitment to industry best practices but has also established a benchmark model that can be followed by other organisations in similar situations, emphasising the importance of top management support and the lived experience of the management system within organisational culture.
